Innovative China: New Drivers of Growth Jointly Released by the DRC, MOF and WBG

(China Think Tank News) “Cultivating New Drivers of China’s Economic Growth Workshop” was held at the Silver Hall, Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) on September 17, 2019. Innovative China: New Drivers of Growth is the newest cooperation achievement jointly released by the DRC, China’s Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the World Bank Group (WBG). The report said that China needs to develop new growth drivers to cope with challenges from productivity, enhance reform measures and further promote innovation in economy.

Zhang Junkuo, Vice President of the DRC; Zou Jiayi, Vice Minister of the MOF; Victoria Kwakwa, Regional Vice President for East Asia and Pacific of the WBG addressed the workshop respectively. Long Guoqiang, Vice President of the DRC delivered opening remarks, presided over the session of Joint Research Presentation, and made a conclusion speech. Scholars and experts from home and abroad, including Gao Peiyong, Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) shared their views and comments on the report.

As the project coordinators, Ma Mingjie, Director-General of Research Department of Innovation Development, DRC; and Hoon Sahib Soh, Special Representative, Korea Office of the WBG introduced the major conclusions and suggestions of the report. Gao Peiyong, Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS); Xue Lan, Cheung Kong Chair Distinguished Professor and Dean of Schwarzman Scholars, Tshinghua University; Nicholas R. Lardy, Senior Fellow, Peterson Institute for International Economics; Barry Naughton, Professor of the University of California San Diego commented and discussed on the report respectively. The session was presided over by Randall Riopelle, Country Manager for China, Korea and Mongolia, International Finance Corporation (IFC).
